FRIDAY FITNESS FORUM - WHETHER OR WEATHER...WHAT DO YOU DO...

                                         WHETHER…OR…WEATHER

“Bad weather always look worse through a window”  Author Unknown

Oh, the weather outside is frightful  !!!  Grab your coat…and get your hat ! !

You probably are thinking at this point that we only meet for our runs in good weather. . .  Nothing could be further from the truth.

Finding ways to work out when the snow is falling, the wind is howling  or the temperatures are soaring is a challenge. Our only rule for postponement is lightening…….because one of us  is sure that she will be struck.

If the temperature is  HOT.. . HOT. . .HOT. . . we run a little slower and stop for water.  We sometimes even stop and walk.  IT'S ALL OK, BECAUSE WE'VE CONTINUED TO MOVE.  That may be our day to only give 70%.  No worries . . . 100% days will be just around the corner.

Some of our best runs have happened on icy cold mornings with wind chills below zero. We  get out of our vehicles and lament about the weather, but not whether  to do it, then our conversation starts, the steps take over, our bodies warm up and the icy cold no longer exists……We win……the cold loses.

UNCOMFORT BRINGS COMFORT

So you can't use the weather as an excuse . . .  And don't worry about being uncomfortable.  The first few movements of any activity are usually uncomfortable.  It will always take your body a few minutes to acclimate, so just realize that you are going to be uncomfortable at the beginning of every work out.  The first plunge in the pool sends a chill through your body . . . the first downward dog makes your arms ache . . .the first pedaling cycle on the bike makes your quadriceps hurt.  As long as you continue it all comes together and your body will comfortably move in the way that you have chosen.    ADDED BENEFIT. . . moving comfortably through your day!

I met a woman in my YOGA class, who has a terminal illness and was given six months to live two years ago.  She has been practicing YOGA for over nine years and she believes that her practice has helped to keep her alive and has given her a better quality of life. When she isn't hooked to the oxygen tank she looks like the picture of health.  Her body moves fluidly through the poses and she is able to handle her daily activities with ease.

Taking care of your  body is not a luxury .It is essential to your well being.
SNOW BANKS AND BAD WEATHER DON'T TALK MUCH.........BUT THEY HELP TEACH YOU .......WHAT YOUR MADE OF.......IN YOUR BODY,MIND AND HEART........
