Darryl Littlejohn was convicted by a New York Jury today for the murder of Imette St. Guillen who found herself in the "wrong place at the wrong time".It appears that after a night of having a party with her girlfriends;she ended up by herself and became the victim of Littlejohn who was employed by the bar that she went to alone to have a late night drink.A student from the University of Vermont under similar circumstances met the same fate in Burlington,Vt. the previous winter. I taught a criminology course last year and we discussed victims and whether their putting themselves in "harms way"made them responsible for the demise that occurs.The discussion among the students was "heated" and ultimately inconclusive.
I am not one to preach fear,however,I ask all you young ones to use common sense and stay with your friends.Follow your gut reaction and stay alert.
